A road motorcycling challenge: visit Pyrenean mountain passes, check in with the app and compete in a seasonal league.

It is not tracking you all day. While you are away from a pass only an operating-system geofence is running, which costs almost nothing; continuous GPS switches on when you enter a pass area and off again when you leave. And if you would rather be in charge, turn automatic detection off and validate by hand at the summit.

Open the pass page and tap “Validate this pass”: it takes a fresh fix at the highest accuracy. For a stamp to count the GPS reading has to be better than 50 metres and you have to be inside the 300-metre validation radius. Under heavy cloud, or with the phone in a metal top box, take it out, wait a few seconds and try again — you can retry as often as you need while you are up there.

Yes. Validation is GPS only: no signal, no data. The stamp is stored on the phone and syncs by itself as soon as you get signal or join a Wi-Fi network, so you can ride all day with roaming switched off.

By altitude, plus a bonus for how hard the pass is to reach: 500 points below 1,000 m, 1,000 from 1,000 to 1,500 m, 2,000 from 1,500 to 2,000 m and 3,500 above 2,000 m; +300 if the pass closes in winter or is an unpaved track, and +500 if it can only be ridden in high season. Rules →

No. Each pass counts once per season, however many times you ride it. And there is a single point per pass, at the summit, so it makes no difference which side you climb: it is the same validation.

No. The 180 passes are independent: any order you like, over as many rides as you like, as long as it is within the season.

There is no live tracking and nobody can see where you are riding. The standings show your display name, your points, how many passes you have stamped and the date of your last validation; other riders can also see which passes you have stamped.
